It can be very difficult to recognize an original Balabushka cue stick. Some cues are similar in looks and style. However there is one sure way to identify a Balabushka cue from the fakes.
I have good friend in Tampa, Florida who observed an old man chasing away a dog from his yard with a cue stick. He offered the old man $50.00 for that cue stick without knowing the brand name of that cue. Of course, it needed some repairs and he took it to a local cue maker in Tampa. When the wrapping was removed they discovered that beneath the wrapping was Balabushka's signature and the identification number of that paricular cue. It was a number 70 Balabushka, and a sure fire way to identify his cue.
The value of a Balabushka varies from that of a book value to that of a fair market price. The book value of my cue ranges from $10,000 and up. However, as mentioned above, one clear plastic butt capped Balabushka cue sold for $150,000. Value will also vary according to condition.
I have been offered various amounts of money over that of the book value. In fact, one individual offered me a Bently for my Balabushka. That vehicle was valued at over $60,000. Yet I refused to sell my Balabushka cue stick for any amount of money. That was then and now my cue is for sale for the right offer.
After all, it was personally made for me by the legend himself, George Balabushka.
